My mom was walking home from church in her new Sunday School dress when she was 14-years old. Being a middle class kid, a hand-me-down was much more common than a new dress, so she wore this particular dress with great care; that is until some boys, who knew what kind of athlete she was, pleaded with her to play baseball with them because they were one short. She said no at first. It was a brand new dress! She walked on a few blocks before the pull of play became too much for her to bear. She went 2 for 3 with a double.
My Mom lived a life full of love, play and faith. What an example she is to me, my siblings and our daughters. Play on, Helen Horan Walsh. We love you.
